Dr. Katrin Jakob has more than 25 years of experience in plant science and genetics, molecular breeding, microbiology and crop science. She received a Master’s degree in Crop Science from the Humboldt-University of Berlin, and a Ph.D. in Crop Science from the Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen, Germany and performed her postdoctoral research in Plant Microbiology and Genetics at The University of Chicago. Katrin also supports Startups as mentor for San Francisco's Ag accelerator THRIVE AgTech. Prior to founding her own company, Katrin was Lead Scientist at Mendel Biotechnology where she was leading research in Plant Pathology, Molecular Breeding, Biofuels, Plant Transformation and Microbial Technologies to enhance crop productivity and stability.
Volker Hausmann has over 25 years experience in computer science and engineering, electronic design automation, and semiconductor device manufacturing. After starting his technical career at the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems in Duisburg, Germany, he moved to California and Silicon Valley in 1997. He co-founded and worked at several startup companies in the fields of electronic design automation, circuit simulation and semiconductor manufacturing. In 2005 he joined Synopsys, Inc. the world’s largest Electronic Design Automation company. At Synopsys he managed a line of business for semiconductor volume manufacturing software, optical proximity correction technology and semiconductor process and device modeling. After almost 20 years, Volker recently retired from Synopsys and he is now a Partner at California Business Associates, where he is working on building the microelectronic branch of the organisation.
Erica Riel-Carden, JD, is Principal at Global Capital Markets in San Francisco, providing transaction and financial services for emerging growth companies. She has deep technical expertise in agriculture, food, technology, & law. Erica leads the Global Capital Agriculture and Agricultural Technology practice and contributes to Global Capital’s Food, Beverage, and Consumer Products practices. She also lectures at the Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business. Prior to joining Global Capital Markets, Erica advised companies as a business attorney both in the startup market and public sector. She prepared clients for financings, due diligence and corporate cleanup, intellectual property licensing agreements, regulatory compliance, and freedom to operate reports. Erica received her B.S. in Agriculture, cum laude, from The Ohio State University and her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law.
